Reference tables

The spacing, coverage and standard sizes the calculators use, on their own pages so you can look them up without running a calculator.

Every figure here is used by at least one calculator on the site, and every page names its sources. When a source is updated, the table and the calculators that use it change together, and the date at the top of each page changes with them.

  • Drywall sheet sizes and weights

    Every stock sheet size in feet and millimetres, the board types and their standards, and the weight of each sheet, regular and lightweight.

  • Drywall fastener spacing table

    Screw and nail spacing for walls and ceilings from GA-216, fasteners per sheet by size and framing, screw lengths and screws per pound.

  • Joint compound and tape coverage

    Gallons of compound per 1,000 sq ft and per sheet by finish level, setting compound bags, tape and corner bead, and drying limits by temperature.

  • Levels of drywall finish

    The Gypsum Association levels 0 to 5: what each includes and where it is used, with the passes, compound and finishing cost of each.

  • Sound and fire-rated assemblies

    Lab STC ranges for common walls, one- and two-hour GA-600 assemblies, and the IRC garage separation rules, each with its source.

  • Standard sizes for estimating

    Wall heights, precut studs, framing spacing, rough openings, sheets, pails, bags, rolls and the waste allowances a drywall order is counted in.
